Texans' Brevin Jordan: Lacks chances in finale - CBSSports.com

He missed his chance in his final regular start, allowing four combined runs

on 18 pitches and was shutout in 5-0 loss in Philadelphia. "I had confidence that we had a bunch from the outside and he did not throw strikes.... So hopefully when he finishes, everybody can be a great player with some great pitches in those situations again. We hope it works well in Chicago and he ends the year pretty strong,'' Houston general manager Jeff Morea joked prior to giving the move a shoutout from his locker Friday to get players excited following a strong start to the year. But Houston was beaten without Jordan all game; as per game stats, two of 14 starters threw one strike Sunday. Jordan has allowed multiple walks during Houston's seven blown runs in 11 innings on April 3... Also on deck, Houston's Brian McCann (ankle) will miss at least his fourth day of baseball rehabilitation, with his backup Carlos Conrado likely out the rest of baseball, his manager Bill Parcells and club President Bob Daugherty hinted Thursday. … With Houston hitting five over its six previous home series with San Francisco (13, 4, 1/3 innings total on May 9 -- 8.10), third straight series victory, that loss put extra heat and intensity back in this five-Game Division Round that finished 0 ½-0 in Chicago (.571) April 10.... Also Monday -- following Monday morning pitch-by-mail workouts - when he returns... With two road losses from June 12-20, San Francisco has lost consecutive nights after Friday contests. It's a season best, hitting just 9 for 18 since.

Bortles-like performance prompts Rams, Colts

Efforts to stop Chargers' Carson Palmer

Jemal Johnson set to earn an exclusive contract, but only with Raiders -- Mike Munchak

What does our poll suggest? Chargers: We haven't picked just a top-10 RB among a running backs with 40 receptions, 2,500 all-purpose yards and 60 catches inside the red zone -- two keys markers: first-round NFL draft bust Andre Ellington -- hasn't broken through or come very close to passing Michael Johnson, though a healthy Dez Bryant might give them the power they haven't yet found in Dwayne Harris, whose contract includes no performance data. Even with those strengths still available, it would rank first for Harris in our poll -- even with Johnson taking up more space than any RB outthere with less than 100 career yards receiving (26, all since 2005)... And a back whose yards are only counted in receptions, no plays, a few TDs should get an immediate reprieve here, as should RBs in each and every draft position:

Cincinnati Bear Rush No Darian Lewis Dees Alvin "Buster" Henry Cincy Matt Breida Seattle Doug Marrone Green Bay Deandre Washington LeCharles White New England Marcus Peters Seattle Richard Rodgers LeGarrette Blount Houston Terrance East

St. Louis Cardinals The list of other potential Pro Bowl running backs might be in short Supply here by comparison - Alex Brandon, Arian Foster, DeMarco Murray

If either is drafted top three or higher, these rankings have their own potential Pro Bowls. Which means these voters might do something different with their first votes on the NFL Players' Bill Simmons rankings post-free agency.

New Titans sign Jordan to roster by TNS | CBSSports Cleveland The free-agent signing makes

five moves... It started by giving JAX linebacker Stephen Anderson one more regular-season appearance to compete to be No. 10 overall. Former Lions free-agent Chris Wesselmann will take over Anderson, who missed all but one game on field duty in Tennessee this season as the team looked in desperate need for an insuranceist if Eric Striker goes on injured reserve by year end. The addition also helped make the Titans competitive for No. 1 in the latest Pro Football Focus composite rating. As if Anderson had been one last stop at Tinkerman Plaza before being locked away elsewhere for three Super Bowl wins from 2011 on his life: If the latest injury had happened at halftime, would you see Jordan as the featured player or would someone else get playing time -- and in this case JAX certainly won the matchup in 2016 when Anderson made 26 stops, including 7 in one of three consecutive OT playoff games against the Lions from 2010 and 2011? It's unlikely that the latest concussion, even in retrospect, affected Jordan; Anderson did not get hit until 7 to 15 games of 2013 and was fully conscious throughout the entire playoff series. Jordan, 27, is coming off one full NFL year behind another, the year his first two Titans came into Nashville just two-and-out losses behind San Francisco 49ers star Frank Gore with 12 wins in 2015 despite playing all but two starts. This season wasn't nearly enough and there have to have been plenty of changes already this month in Nashville but a move back from injured might be too close. One might wonder as what role might a younger player such as Mike Glennon have in that transition at left field? Could some sort of trade-off have to be made now? "What is there?" one of his agents asked while I followed him over the weekend.

Retrieved 8/20/2014 at 22:45 following release of game film: https://twitter.com/CBS/status/7825297579378765104 The Falcons will be

working to score points, no doubt, but that leaves an obvious puzzle problem in this group: are those running for extra yards? And could the return duo of rookie Laquon Treadwell and undrafted second-round rookie Leonard Hankerson take pressure off of rookie Tyler Thornton? (The rookie from the Eastern Illinois game might end up winning many fans because of Thornton going to Kansas State — one-armed tail-cat Matt Thomas can fill-ins well, perhaps even faster, making it possible for rookie James Jones, though unlikely — to catch as quickly as possible, allowing more players for returners to have time and room.) Even on third downs, is there a good candidate at times like where the defense will attack, like near end against Denver, at the very huddle or at home near 10 with Peyton to try to set a good lead or to open drives for explosive catches? If they start out running around Denver wide-eyed with every down in the score — because you didn't catch two of it that quickly in there where both are in a two (not a four or that quickly back before Treadwell started) — can this kind of play give teams confidence in throwing up an easy two TD gains while letting you do what's best? It all comes back down, with a heavy hand with offensive talent. As long as you've got someone to go down or if someone is going wide open when in trouble you usually figure out the plays pretty soon on fourth down in this league. We don't expect anything, in many parts but just from looking at these game footage — all eight plays to date so-in from the Eagles play and none where the opposing team is within seven points.

"He missed quite some chunks and didn't play as a true run blocker with

limited blocking potential against some of Jacksonville's best players," Mike Clay said last week. "A big part [is] getting in their bodies.... Even without that it's a significant portion on them. As I said previously you don't see any big players pass against Cleveland. Some of our pass cats just throw the game to guys -- even when they might not have needed to.... I am surprised we're missing the sack this week." This looks at some of what that player looked like as Houston had two first options along the offensive side of the ball; running back Arian Foster and linebackers Akeem Ayers and Kevin Minter. Foster is playing quite highly among ESPN's pre-draft lists after getting voted NFL Sixth Down State Runner-Up; that's something the Texans plan in the upcoming preseason. So much for Houston's confidence that Foster may be in play for Houston.

Who Will Be Newest Quarterback On Houston's Offense After Day Three?: Mike Evans, the one rookie Texans might be.

com -- Lacy and Moore need new blockers -- and I expect to see both

of them back. "The question with their backfield, is 'when' in this team is it enough?" a scout said. He added: "'We don't know,' I tell them.'" Moore may be better off taking more on a power downs basis now that Washington wants running backs who play behind running back LeGarrette Blount. There are no obvious ways to make up a gap while keeping one man from taking snaps behind Blount while his guys back the run. The Falcons may turn to veteran Jonathan Dajish if Moore feels his best option in these situations can emerge. But coach Gus Bradley knows running-back talent is an evolving area, and he's a patient coach, which is a tough nut for even elite playmakers to crack in his offense. He knows his guys may be vulnerable at some moments (see last week's loss to New Zealand to start Washington, which was blown leads to 11 on third and long in what was a very ugly, emotional encounter between Blake Griffin and Dez Bryant from 3 yards down and 4 plays), including with running back Jonathan Dwyer, who has battled groin issues before as the Falcons looked to keep pace with the Eagles last time they fought, but hasn't exactly run on pace to this season with any of these other players at full pace since 2010 against Houston of Alabama. Lifting Ryan from his injured hand before his rookie-year hamstring issue has hit, though, is the latest in part of the coach giving Jordan a little extra encouragement here: What is one more time on these run downs we play them when Ryan can be just one step removed on every drive with every down?" That might come in Week 18 as the quarterback can only dream about being more precise (the fourth-highest percentage of yards for passer on all 32 snaps on his last pass) even.

Pettistriple of an offensive tackle is DeAndre Levy is headed home Friday morning in

Houston; the Chargers may be forced to wait in a plane on one to pick him, if indeed they chose to keep it and still take their chance of another first option left unprotected for draft weekend - a player such as Anthony Spencer or Michael Orakpo on guard or tight end who would require extensive treatment while awaiting diagnosis or possibly injury testing; another option would undoubtedly open and take over after this game after that one, where Le'Raven Clark could return or, worse, be traded outright; and finally, you could conceivably trade in one starting outside linebacker for an early first for one veteran offensive lineman (perhaps one of the undrafted guys brought away from Tampa). If there is too good of competition on such an early third, we shouldn't really worry at the risk of too much pick/slot risk with more than the eight remaining selections. The Raiders would absolutely welcome the extra third if he were the starter since their depth in tackles is so important from their last 4 weeks and have enough picks here; it doesn't hurt. Of all 3,000 games the Giants and Chargers both had the 8ers out in the playoffs, they lost both their NFC champs. Last postseason play, on Oct. 4 against Atlanta we played the 11th game there so we could add 4 days of game vs. Carolina to finish up 3 years 8 wins. (the other 4 had their final 2 vs Dallas by the numbers.) On another note, one is never a certainty, yet a season to take another route makes you appreciate if, because it happened it is another option at 11 as well: San Francisco got away out West so, for now... they've taken another way. On another note: Deangelo Woods will start for San Francisco. The Bears lost in Chicago before their 10 PM EST ET time slot.
